Grooming Trailers
We are all in this to make money, bottom line. Lynne and I learned early in our grooming career that less is more. What I mean by that is:
- Go for function over flash in your grooming trailer/van.
- Trailer over van. If the pulling vehicle needs maintenance you can borrow or rent another vehicle and keep working, and insurance is A LOT less expensive.
- Keep the weight to a minimum so it can be towed by lighter vehicles and trailer brakes are not required.
In the long run, it’s less expensive to run a three thousand dollar generator than it is to idle a fifteen thousand dollar van engine all day.
- More stuff in the grooming area means more to keep clean. The only horizontal surfaces in our trailers are the tub, table and a small work station.
- Less time on cleaning and maintenance means more free time for you.
- Minimize your non-productive time.
- Minimize your down time due to equipment failure.
We learned several very important things through our experiences. We kept these in mind when designing the Mighty Mini and manufacture them with:
- All quality parts and materials that are widely available.
- The generator is mounted on the tongue of the trailer. No problem using other tow vehicles.
-
The generator uses regular gasoline. Fill it when you fill your vehicle. No lost time filling LP tanks.
- The generator has a remote starter inside with computer diagnostics.
- Shoreline receptacle and power cord in case of generator failure.
- Everything in trailer is within easy reach.
- A full size nylon sheet tub shelf for washing/drying any size dog or cat. It can be positioned two inches from the bottom or three inches from the top.
- A white nylon sheet table top that makes it easier to see the hair on feet.
- The table spins and has a full restraint bar. You can groom the pet from any angle.
- No windows to distract the dog or cat from outside activities.
- Plenty of insulation and adequate A/C.
- Main and secondary hair strainers on waste water lines
to prevent pump damage.
An emergency gravity tub drain in case of pump failure.
- A spare pump (fresh, waste and recirculating washer use the same type) that can be changed in minutes by most anyone.
- A dryer with two motors. One can continue to be used if the other fails.
- The dryer can be replaced in minutes with a spare.
- All electrical equipment is located out of the grooming area.
- Industrial vinyl flooring. The spray in truck bed lining sounds great, but it’s nearly impossible to clean.
- High pressure water hoses and proper hot water hose where necessary.
- Extremely simple fresh water fill and waste water dump systems.
- All water hoses and tanks are located inside the trailer to prevent freezing.
We have over 2000 hours on our current generator with no problems. But, if you do, or just elect to use shore power you can use the following when plugged into a 20 amp receptacle:
- Lights
- All water pumps
- Taxi Vac
- Any clippers
- Exhaust vent
- The dryer on single speed, water heater or a small space heater (one at a time).
